Journey
Enactus Startup Accelerator
The ESA was held in Frankfurt from March 21 to 22. In the category „Innovation“ we competed against other Encatus teams from all over Germany. Overall, we were able to win 1st place in our category, as well as a special prize from „GOOD“. We are very proud of our results and were able to take away a lot of positive feedback as well as helpful input.
Heinz-Kappes-Preis
In October we received the notification to be one of the winners of the Heinz Kappes Award. The Heinz Kappes Award is an honor of the Rotary Club Karlsruhe-Fächerstadt. It is awarded to young people up to the age of 27 who have shown voluntary and unselfish commitment.
Enactus National Cup 2022
We have the honor to present the Enactus Team Karlsruhe at the National Cup (NC) this year. We are incredibly happy to present our project and to talk about our challenges and how we can solve them with up to 650 participants from different Enactus teams, alumni, advisors, sponsors and many representatives from universities, media, politics and business.
DB Award
In December we have been awarded the DB Award 2021. According to Martin Seiler, the Board Member for Human Resources and Legal Affairs at DB, we received the „Special Award for Social Commitment from the Deutsche Bahn Foundation“ because we combine three important dimensions with Fish’N’Bricks: Innovative Spirit, Climate Protection and Community Involvement. He said the foundation was impressed by our unusual idea, which arouses curiosity as it transforms plastic waste into something positive.
Prototype planning
In order to see our plastic bricks in action and to test whether they are weatherproof, we want to build a test wall at the garden of Bee4People. However, this requires planning and several arrangements. Stay tuned!
Completion of the first bricks
The first run of our brick production requires 5 hours and 2 kg of plastic.
Production of numerous test specimens.
Does the brick keep its shape? Is it heat resistant? Answers to these and other questions are determined with the help of test specimens so that a suitable plastic composition for the brick is derived.
Construction of the test mold
In order for the brick to be sufficiently stable, we have to determine relevant characteristics with the help of material samples made of recycled plastic. We have developed a mold for the production of these material samples.
Start of plastic waste collection campaign for first shredding tests
In order to determine which types of plastics might be suitable for our project, we are starting initial plastic collection campaigns internally.
Completion of the shredder
Inspired by Precious Plastics the self-designed and assembled shredder is completed. On this basis, we are now able to shred the plastic waste for further processing.

Deep Dive into the situation in Ambon
In the Indonesian city, the daily plastic waste production is equivalent to about 13 fully loaded SUVs. This causes extreme pollution, degradation and displacement of fisheries.
Due to a high poverty rate (4.5%), the city is characterized by a precarious construction situation. These two main arguments lead to the choice of Ambon as a destination.
Foundation Fish’N’Bricks
Eight students from different disciplines launch Fish’n’Bricks. At the beginning the basic idea is elaborated and contact is made with experts in the field. Ambon is chosen as target market.
